Section 1 — AI System Description
- WriteAlign uses artificial intelligence to evaluate student writing against rubric criteria.
- The AI model is provided by Anthropic (Claude).
- AI evaluates organization, development, voice, and conventions based on teacher-selected rubrics.
- AI does not make final grading decisions — teachers review all results.
Section 2 — Risk Classification
WriteAlign is classified as a High-Risk AI System under TRAIGA.
Reason: The system processes student educational records and produces assessments that may inform educational decisions.

Section 3 — How Student Data Is Used
- Student writing samples are submitted by teachers for evaluation.
- Before transmission to the AI, personally identifiable information (names, phone numbers, email addresses, SSNs) is automatically redacted.
- The AI receives only the redacted writing text and rubric criteria.
- Anthropic's Zero-Data-Retention policy ensures no student data is stored by the AI provider after processing.

Section 4 — Impact on Students
- AI-generated scores are formative assessment tools, not summative grades.
- Teachers retain full authority over how scores are used.
- No automated consequential decisions are made solely by AI.
